LIONS RELEASE TWO

The Breedon Aggregates Lions have today released their two reserves John Oliver and Charles Wright following their ninth home league defeat of the season against the Glasgow Tigers on Saturday.

The two reserves each scored three points but were overshadowed by the teenage sensation Nick Morris who scored 19 points.

Oliver, who has recently returned to the side after injury, was currently one of only three of the original members of the Lions team that started the season. The Australian made 24 league and cup appearances for Leicester scoring over a century of points. Wright, who joined the Lions on loan from Workington in June as a replacement for Jamie Courtney now returns to his parent club.

Last night’s fixture against Glasgow ended in another disappointment for Leicester who kept pace with the league leaders right up until heat 11 only for the visitors to hit the Lions with three consecutive heat wins that saw Glasgow amass 14 points compared to Leicester’s 4 in the same period. The two teams shared the points in heat 14 and the Lions gained a consolation 5-1 in the nominated race to leave them on the wrong end of a 49 points to 43 score-line.

Leicester have signed two new riders and are awaiting approval from speedway’s governing body before releasing their names. Both are expected to make their debuts in Leicester’s Premier League fixture at Newport on Saturday and their arrival will mean that Iliya Bondarenko moves to number 6 in the side and his presence will strengthen the team at reserve.
